Bee resin or propolis is a waxy, resinous, sticky mass produced by honey bees, which consists mainly of the sticky coatings of the bud scales of some tree species such as poplar, birch, robinia, chestnut, fir. The bees collect these sticky bud coatings and knead them with pollen, glandular secretions and wax to form a sticky, spicy-smelling mass which is then used in thin films to fix and cement the combs and crevices.
